James Richard Browne, 82, Waikoloa died May 31 at home. Born in South Gate, Calif., he was a firefighter for the City of Santa Barbara, Calif., a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, a member of the Kona Elks Club, Marine Corps League and the Korean War Veterans Association and escorted groups on tours of Camp Tarawa’s locations significant during World War II, and for his efforts to establish a museum commemorating Camp Tarawa.
