Ronald Francis “Sam” Addington Sr., 78, of Keaau died May 24 at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired construction worker, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps., and member of the Wailoa River Rats. Friends may call from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. Memorial service at 10 a.m. Graveside services at noon at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire. Charles Shim Ung Aina Jr., 59, of Hilo died June 1 at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was the owner/designer of Charles S.U. Aina Jr. Inc. Architecture Planning/Interior Design Consultant and was a member of Akaka Fall Lion’s Club. Visitation will be from 3:30-5 p.m. Wednesday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Betty Lou (Gagner) Akana, 88, of Sunnyvale, Calif., and formerly of the Big Island, died May 21 at her home. Born in Seattle. James Richard Browne, 82, Waikoloa died May 31 at home. Born in South Gate, Calif., he was a firefighter for the City of Santa Barbara, Calif., a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, a member of the Kona Elks Club, Marine Corps League and the Korean War Veterans Association and escorted groups on tours of Camp Tarawa’s locations significant during World War II, and for his efforts to establish a museum commemorating Camp Tarawa. Memorial service and graveside burial at noon Friday at West Hawaii Veteran’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to North Hawaii Hospice in Waimea. Roland “Pineapple” Fritz Blackiston Jr., 66, of Pahoa died June 2 in Huntington Beach, Calif. Born in Honolulu. Memorial services will take place in Orange County, Calif., and Honolulu. Survived by brother, Guy Blackiston; sisters, Patricia Zakahi and Sally Chun; son, Roland Fritz Blackiston III; daughter, Sondra Lavoie; and five grandchildren.

Lillian S. (Bohol) Chock, 76 of Memphis, Tenn., died July 19, 2013, at the Regional Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker. Celebratory gathering will be held. Alice Mildred Gutmann, 84, of Pahoa died June 2 at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., she was a nurse at Castle Point Veterans Hospital in Duchess County, N.Y. Samiuela “Sam” Nisa, 46, of Pahoa died May 28 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Tonga, he was a stone mason and a member of the S.U.T.T. Ketisemani Tongan Church and Hilo Methodist Church. Patricia Lou Pung, 81, of Kawaihae died May 29. Born in Ninole, she worked as a cashier at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and was a member of Anunciation Catholic Church.
